NDO – The National Steering Committee for Key Petroleum Projects convened a meeting in Hanoi on December 25 under the chair of Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai to review operation of oil and gas projects in both domestic and foreign markets.

The committee’s members discussed operation of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery and upgrade and expansion on Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, the southern petrochemical complex, and O Mon’s Lot B and Con Son 2 gas pipelines.

Delegates focused on issues related to overall progress, site preparation, selection of contractors, financial arrangements, product consumption, and equitisation, in addition to proposed measures to ensure the projects’ progress and effectiveness.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy PM Hai urged for prompt specific solutions to tackle bottlenecks in such projects.

Particularly, for Dung Quat Refinery, he urged for accelerating subprojects related to land clearance and compensation, as well as preparation and financing mechanisms for Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Co., Ltd. – the unit responsible for managing and operating Dung Quat Oil Refinery.

For Nghi Son complex, it is necessary to speed up construction progress and strengthen construction quality management, while ensuring occupational safety and health and environmental sanitation on site.

The deputy PM also suggested mobilising capital and facilitating investment procedures for the southern petrochemical projects and gas pipelines, adding that objectives set for the projects should be in line with market conditions and national socio-economic situation.
