Vietnam has over 600,000 active enterprises: white paper

NDO - There were 610,637 enterprises in Vietnam as of December 31, 2018, contributing over 60% of the country’s total GDP, according to a white paper released by the General Statistics Office on April 28.

Among them, 44.1% were generating profit while 48.4% were operating at a loss, official data showed.

Enterprises in the services sector accounted for 68.7% of total enterprises in Vietnam, up 7.3% from 2017 while those in industrial production and farming made up 30.2% and 1.1% respectively.

In terms of ownership, state-owned enterprises numbered at 2,260, equivalent to 0.4% of the total, while non-state domestic enterprises accounted for 96.9% of total enterprises, with the remainder being foreign-owned.

Ultra-small and small enterprises accounted for 62.6% of total enterprises in Vietnam, up 7.4% from a year earlier.

Revenues from industrial and construction enterprises accounted for 50.4% of the total, followed by 49% from the services sector and 0.6% from farming enterprises.

Non-state domestic enterprises generated the largest share of revenue at 56.7%, up 14.3% from 2017. Revenues from foreign-invested enterprises and state-owned enterprises accounted for 28.8% and 14.4% respectively.
