NDO - A virtual conference was recently held to discuss measures towards boosting Vietnam-Belarus business cooperation as the coronavirus has caused unprecedented disruptions to bilateral trade and investment.

The event was hosted by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) and the National Economics University of Vietnam (NEU), and was attended by more than 100 enterprises of the two countries.

In their opening remarks, both BelCCI Deputy Chairman Denis Meleshkin and NEU President Pham Hong Chuong affirmed that the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union, of which Belarus is a member, has driven bilateral economic and trade cooperation considerably, as seen in trade growth and the increasing number of Belarusian projects in Vietnam.

Participants at the conference pointed out the strengths and cooperation requirements of each side.

Belarus has advantages in IT, fintech, healthcare, new materials, chemicals, food storage, mining and mechanical engineering, while the country wishes to import Vietnam’s agricultural produce, garments, footwear, electronics and timber products.

At the conference, numerous questions were raised as both countries’ enterprises expressed their interest in learning more about the business environment and looking for reliable partners in the other country.
