NDO – According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), total social investment during the last nine months increased by 4.8% compared to the same period in 2019, the lowest increase in the 2016-2020 period due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on all production and business activities.

However, the growth rate of investment capital from the State budget in September and over the past nine months reached their highest levels in the 2016-2020 period as a result of the accelerating disbursement of public investment, in order to maintain the momentum of economic growth while controlling the epidemic well.

Total social investment over the last nine months was estimated at VND1,445 trillion, up 4.8% compared to the same period last year, and equal to 34.7% of GDP.

The GSO also pointed out that despite the negative impacts caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, thanks to drastic direction at all levels and sectors as well as people’s efforts, in general, people’s living conditions have been stable while social welfare for the public has been maintained.

According to a preliminary report, regular social assistance beneficiaries, people who contributed to the nation and needy people received gifts worth over VND9.4 trillion in the first nine months of 2020.
