NDO - The northern province of Thai Nguyen is creating two large reliefs depicting the legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap and the ethnic groups in the province.

The work is designed to honour the late general and educate the younger generations about the revolutionary tradition of Thai Nguyen Province.

The province was home to the Dinh Hoa Revolutionary Base, where President Ho Chi Minh, General Giap and other leaders lived and worked from 1947 to 1954 during the resistance war against the French.

The two stone reliefs, each measuring 37 metres long, 9.8 metres high and 0.5 metres thick, are placed on the two sides of the main stage at a square bearing the general’s name in the eponymous provincial capital city.

The reliefs portray the assistance of the people at the revolutionary base to General Giap, the General and the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the growth of the Vietnamese People’s Army and the development of Thai Nguyen during the Doi Moi reform period.

To date 90% of the construction work has been completed and the reliefs are scheduled for full completion by the end of August.
