NDO – Dang Viet Loc, a student at the National University of Civil Engineering, was presented with the first prize in a sketching contest on the Temple of Literature, for his work entitled ‘Khue Van Cac’ (Pavilion of the Constellation of Literature), at an award ceremony held in Hanoi on January 30.

Two second-place, three third-place, and eight consolation prizes were also granted to outstanding sketches at the ceremony.

Launched two months ago by the Temple of Literature’s Centre for Scientific and Culture Activities, UNESCO Office in Vietnam, and the National University of Civil Engineering, the contest attracted hundreds of entries from students in Hanoi.

Adopting different styles and materials including pencils and watercolours, the entries feature the beauty of the iconic site of Hanoi.

On the occasion, the organising board selected the 40 best entries to display for visitors along the ancient stone walls of Khue Van Cac.

According to Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Temple’s Centre for Scientific and Cultural Activities, the contest aims to provide a venue for art lovers to show their talents while contributing to preserving and promoting the cultural value of the Temple of Literature.

Chief representative of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam Michael Croft highly appreciated the organisation of the contest, which he views as part of a thorough plan and strong commitment of the Temple’s management board to promote creativity and uphold the heritage’s values.
