Vietnamese student wins third prize at international piano contest

NDO/VNA—Tran Viet Bao, a Vietnamese student studying at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, has won third prize in the under-25 category at the Roma International Piano Competition.

Bao, 23, received 85.2 points, sharing third prize with five other contestants from the Republic of Korea, Japan, Poland and Australia. Forty contestants from many countries and territories competed for the prize.

Setareh Tabatabai Shafii from Iran won first prize in the category, with 98.8 points.

Bao is studying in a Master’s course at the Franz Liszt Academy. In 2010, he won second prize at the International Piano contest in Vietnam.

The Roma International Piano Competition includes categories for soloists under the ages of ages 19 and 25, and for four-handed duos and two-piano duos for those under age 34.
