NDO—A book and exhibition highlighting Vietnamese contemporary arts were officially introduced at the Italian cultural centre Casa Italia in Hanoi on November 14.

The book, entitled "Vietnam Eye: Vietnamese Contemporary Arts" introduces 56 emerging contemporary artists in Vietnam. It is the eighth project in the Global Eye Programme, initiated by David and Serenella Ciclitira (the founders of Parallel Contemporary Art) in 2009, which aims to foster artistic talent in emerging art markets in Asia.

The book was edited by Serenella Ciclitira and published by SKIRA publishing house. It also features writings on the current context of Vietnamese contemporary arts.

In addition to the book, the exhibition themed “Vietnamese Contemporary Arts” will offer an overview of one of the newest and most exciting markets in the global art world. On display are works of art created by nineteen famous and emerging contemporary artists in Vietnam.

Over the past ten years, Vietnam has developed rapidly with a new generation of contemporary artists who have made efforts to balance cultural and social issues with a contemporary outlook.

They not only understand the history of Vietnamese arts but are also aware of international arts.

The exhibition, which is curated by Serenella Ciclitira, Nigel Hurst (CEO of Saatchi Gallery), Niru Ratnam (Director of START) and Vietnamese artist Tran Luong, will run until January 13, 2017.

On the occasion of the event, a series of small-scale exhibitions will also be held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. In addition, forums presented by artists and seminars on education for children and their families are expected to attract numerous visitors.
