NDO – A grand ceremony was held on May 7 in the northwestern province of Son La to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Uncle Ho’s visit to the Northwest region (May 7, 1959-2019).

The event was attended by Politburo members: Permanent member of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong; and Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai.

Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member Vuong, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, congratulated the Party, government and people of the northwestern provinces, including Son La, on their achievements in all fields over recent years.

He asked the localities to continue promoting the campaign to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morals and style an also to uphold the initiative and creativity to rouse all potentials and advantages of the northwest region.

The authorities should mobilise local ethnic communities to actively produce and participate in building new rural areas as well as preserve and promote their cultural values, added the Politburo member.

At the ceremony, Politburo members Tran Quoc Vuong and Truong Thi Mai, along with Son La provincial leaders and representatives from other northwestern provinces, cut the ribbon to inaugurate a monument titled ‘Uncle Ho with the northwestern ethnic groups’.

The event also featured a unique art programme with songs and dances praising Uncle Ho, the Party and country while highlighting the beauty of the northwest region.

The grand ceremony ended with an impressive and colourful fireworks display.
