NDO – The third conference of the International Council for Day of Vesak (ICDV) was held at the Tam Chuc Buddhist Cultural Complex in Kim Bang district, the northern province of Ha Nam, on May 11.

The conference was the final meeting between the ICDV and the Vietnamese National Organising Committee for the 16th UN Day of Vesak Celebrations to review and examine the entire programmes of the opening and closing ceremonies, seminars and cultural events.

After the discussions, the participants approved the programmes for the opening and closing ceremonies of the UN Vesak Celebrations 2019, the list of delegates attending the celebrations, the division of teams for the organisation of seminars, the invitation of participants for ‘Ha Nam Declaration 2019’ and various other important issues.

On the occasion, the Ministry of Information and Communications co-ordinated with the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha (VBS) to officially launch a special set of stamps to celebrate the UN Day of Vesak Celebrations 2019.

The stamps will be used in the postal network from May 11, 2019 to December 31, 2020. The main image of the stamps is a statue of majestic Buddha with the Bodhi leaf from the feudal Ly Dynasty behind. In addition, images of Tam Chuc pagoda, dragons from the Ly Dynasty, lotus and clouds in the sky symbolise the interference between heaven and earth, bringing about a peaceful life for people.

On the occasion, a Buddhist social network made its debut at the address Butta.vn. The network will be directly managed by the Venerable Thich Duc Thien, the Vice President, Secretary and Head of the International Buddhist Commission of the VBS.
