Long Xuyen City asked to unlock economy and tourism potentials

NDO – Long Xuyen City should continue to take advantages of opportunities and tap potential of trade, services and tourismin the coming time.

Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister made the statement while attending a ceremony held by Long Xuyen City, in the Mekong River Delta province of An Giang, on August 20 to mark the 230th anniversary of its establishment (1789 – 2019).

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Binh appreciated the achievements that the city has gained over recent years, particularly in socio-economic development.

He asked Long Xuyen to enhance solidarity in the internal authorities as well as create consensus among the people.

It is essential to build up a contingent of Party members, officials and cadres with firm political stance, good moral qualities and high expertise and responsibility, noted the Deputy PM.

He urged the locality to set appropriate strategies and plans to develop the fields of healthcare, science, education, finance and banking.

Deputy PM Binh also emphasised that the city needs to pay strong attention to promoting cultural and historical values, towards the development of local tourism.

The ceremony concluded with a special art programme honouring late President Ton Duc Thang and the sentiment between President Ho Chi Minh and him as well as praising the country and the achievements of Long Xuyen City.
