NDO –The authorities of the northern province of Bac Kan held a ceremony on the evening of August 24 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Bac Kan province (August 24, 1949 – 2019) in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Addressing the event, Secretary of Bac Kan provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Du said that former Bac Kan town was the first administration unit of Vietnam to be liberated in August 1949, creating a boost for the next victory of the Vietnamese Army and people.

PM Phuc emphasised that the liberation of Bac Kan province was a very significant event which marks the 70-year history of Bac Kan’s glorious struggle for independence and freedom.

He noted that today, Bac Kan has seen numerous changes with higher economic growth and improved living standards for the local people. However, Bac Kan remains a poor province with small economic scale, low budget revenue and a high poverty rate, the PM said.

The government leader asked the province to focus on restructuring its economy, applying science and technology in developing agricultural and forestry products, and boosting services and tourism, among others.

The province should promote areas of culture, society, environment, defence, and security in harmony with economic development while bringing poverty reduction policies to life, PM Phuc stated.

At the ceremony, Bac Kan authorities granted the insignia “For the Bac Kan development cause” to revolutionary veterans, Heroes of the Armed Forces, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, and predecessor leaders of Bac Kan province.
