Politburo member Mai meets overseas Vietnamese in Qatar

NDO – Politburo member Truong Thi Mai met with overseas Vietnamese (OVs) and the Vietnamese Embassy staff in Qatar on August 17 (local time).

Mai, who is also head of the Party Central Committee’s Mass Mobilisation, is leading a Party delegation on a working visit to the Gulf country.

At the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Thao reported to Politburo member Mai on the Vietnam - Qatar relations, the operation of the embassy and the situation of the OV community in the host country. The diplomat stated that the Vietnamese Embassy in Qatar has strived to fulfil its tasks to maintain and promote friendly relations between Vietnam and Qatar.

Hailing the efforts of the embassy in promoting the solidarity among OVs and enhancing cooperation between the two countries, Mai urged the embassy to continue to promote its role as a bridge to connect the two nations, while further improving consular and citizen protection work and paying attention to OVs and Vietnamese guest workers in Qatar, as well as maintaining and promoting national cultural identity and building a stable and developing Vietnamese community in Qatar.

The senior Party official affirmed that Vietnam always considers OVs as an inseparable part of the nation. She also expressed her hope that the Vietnamese community in Qatar will unite, support each other and always contribute positively to the construction and development of the fatherland.

During her working visit to Qatar from August 17-21, Mai and her entourage will have meetings and talks with leaders from the Consultative Assembly, the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs of Qatar.

The two sides will discuss major orientations in relations between the two countries, while at the same time seeking support from Qatar in creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese people in the country.
