NDO/VNA – Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has sent a message of sympathy to PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc over serious human and asset losses in Vietnam’s central region caused by storm Noul.

In the message, the Lao PM, on behalf of Lao Party, State and people, extended his deepest sympathy to the Vietnamese people, especially those who were directly affected by the storm.

“The Lao Government and people will always stand side by side with the Vietnamese Party, Government and people during times of hardship and highly value the Laos-Vietnam traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation,” he wrote.

Storm Noul, the fifth in the East Sea this year, made landfall in Vietnam’s central region on September 18.

As of September 20, the storm left six people dead and 112 others injured; 13 houses completely collapsed and 22,716 others damaged; 3,888 ha of rice and vegetables submerged; and 105 ha of aquatic farming ruined.

Meanwhile, 16.5 km of coasts and river banks were eroded, and 36km of roads were damaged, most of which have been re-opened for traffic as of September 20 morning.
