NA Chairwoman receives Lao National Assembly Vice President

NDO – Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held a reception for Vice President of the Lao National Assembly Bounpone Bouttanavong in Hanoi on August 20.

Chairwoman Ngan said that the Vietnamese NA appreciates the visit by the Lao NA Vice President, noting that the consolidation of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Laos is among strategic tasks, which is of great significance for the development of each country.

The Vietnamese NA Chairwoman briefed the guest on socio-economic development situations of Vietnam,including an estimated rise in GDP of 6.76% in the first half of 2019.

Ngan expressed her pleasure at the implementation of signed agreements between top legislators of both National Assemblies, which is the basis for the External Relations Committees of both National Assemblies to set out plans for 2020 towards enhancing the efficiency of bilateral cooperation.

Vice President of the Lao NA Bounpone Bouttanavongthanked NA Chairwoman Ngan for the reception while briefing her on the outcome of his meeting with Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed their delights at the results of bilateral cooperation over recent years and agreed to continue holding bilateral visits by senior leaders of the two National Assemblies, seminars between NA agencies, and training courses for NA officials.

The Vice President of the Lao NA said that practical cooperation between the two NA Offices has contributed to strengthening the relations between the two countries.He expressed his wish that the two National Assemblies will continue to coordinate with each other in organising symposiums which have brought about many effective results.

He noted that Laos will cooperate with Vietnam when Vietnam takes on the role of Chair of ASEAN and theASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2020 for the benefits of both countries and ASEAN member countries.

The two senior legislators emphasised that the two sides will continue to coordinate with each other to supervise the building of the new Lao NA building to ensure its progress.
