Officials attend great national unity festival in provinces

NDO/VNA – Politburo member and Chairwoman of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai on November 10 attended the great national unity festival in Dong Song hamlet, Kien Thanh commune, Tran Yen district, the northern province of Yen Bai.

Up to 96% of Dong Song hamlet’s population are Dao ethnic minority people. It has been recognised as a cultural hamlet with 86.4% of households earning the cultural status. In 2019, the hamlet’s poverty rate dropped to 4.6% and income per capita reached VND35.34 million (US$1,520) per year.

Mai presented VND100 million funded by the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to support impoverished children in Tran Yen district and 20 gift packages for poor students with good academic results in Kien Thanh commune.

The same day, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh attended the great national unity festival of Tan An street, Tan Thanh ward, Ninh Binh city of Ninh Binh province, aimed at calling on all people to combat plastic waste and protect the environment.

Tan An is a typical street in Ninh Binh city, where 168 families live. This year, the street reported no criminal offenders, no domestic violence case and no child dropping out of school. The street has been kept clean and green and installed with public lighting and security cameras by its residents.

Addressing the festival, Thinh hailed the street’s households for their achievements and urged the local authorities at all levels to further support the residents to reduce poverty sustainably, develop business and improve living standard.

She later presented 30 gift packages to cultural families and 30 scholarships for local students.

Attending the great national solidarity festival in Hau Giang on November 10, Tran Thanh Man, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, congratulated the province on its socio-economic achievements.

Man took this occasion to present nine houses worth VND40 million (US$1,723) each to poor households in Phu Xuan hamlet, Thanh Hoa commune, Phung Hiep district.

The great national solidarity festival was observed in celebration of the 89th founding anniversary of the VFF (November 18, 1930).
