On the Vietnamese doctors’ traditional day, Hue and his entourages visited Duc Giang General Hospital and Hanoi Department of Health on Thursday morning. The delegation also inspected the prevention and control of the new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) at the hospital located in Long Bien district.

According to Director of Duc Giang Hospital Nguyen Van Thuong, the unit is a first-class general hospital with a capacity of over 500 beds and is one of five Hanoi hospitals tasked with providing isolation, monitoring and treatment for Covid-19 patients. The hospital established its own Covid-19 Prevention and Control Department, consisting of three sub-committees and two mobile emergency teams.

The hospital is preparing an isolated area to treat patients suspected of having Covid-19 infection with 70 beds equipped with breathing machines, medicines and other equipment. Currently, the hospital has fortunately not received any patients related to Covid-19 yet.

Conveying his congratulations to Duc Giang Hospital's doctors, Hue suggested that the hospital continue to strive for comprehensive development, promoting its role as the city's first-class general hospital, with a focus on fostering a quality medical staff, strengthening cooperation to improve qualifications, renovating governance, promoting financial autonomy and improving the management of procurement of medical equipment and quality assurance.

The senior Party official also noted that the Covid-19 epidemic is still complicated and unpredictable, and so that the hospitals should continue to strictly follow the direction from the city authorities, while carefully reviewing its facilities and resources to be ready to deal with the worst situation and not to let outbreaks occur.

At a separated meeting with the Hanoi Department of Health’s staff the same day, Hue highly praised the Hanoi health sector’s efforts in the protection, care for and improvement of local residents' health, especially in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic.

He urged the local health sector continue to closely follow the guidance from the city authorities and review their capacity and equipment to develop effective plans against Covid-19.

Each medical examination and treatment facility needs to conduct drills with specific situations, while considering to expand their scale for medical examinations and treatment, Hue said, adding that the local health sector needs to work out a plan to open field hospitals if needed.

Along with that, the Hanoi Municipal People's Committee needs to study the isolation plan for each neighbourhood if necessary, Hue stated.
