Vice President presents scholarships to students in Bac Ninh

NDO – As many as 110 outstanding students living in difficult circumstances in Bac Ninh province were presented with scholarships at a ceremony held at the Kinh Bac Cultural Centre on December 25 in the presence of Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.

 

The event is part of the ‘Together with children to school’ programme which was launched by the Vietnam Children’s Support Fund.

The scholarships, worth VND3 million (US$140) each, were granted to 110 outstanding students living in difficult circumstances in Bac Ninh province.

Currently, more than four million children in Vietnam are in need of care, including 1.5 million orphans, children with disabilities and birth defects and street children.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan emphasised that the programme has contributed to encouraging children to overcome their difficulties to gain outstanding achievements in study.

Over the past years, the Vietnam Children’s Support Fund mobilised more than VND4,000 billion (over US$18.7 million) to support over 28 million children.

Initiated in 2012, the ‘Together with children to school’ programme has offered over 7,500 scholarships worth more than VND22 billion (over US$1.02 million) to needy students in 61 provinces and cities.
