NDO - More than VND100 billion has been raised so far from the programmes organised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) to raise public interest and support for local islanders, fishermen and armed forces on the waters of Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos.

The programmes call for trade union members across Vietnam, and other organisations and individuals, to join hands in supporting Vietnam’s law enforcement forces and fishermen, helping them to feel secure in safeguarding national sovereignty.

The VGCL presented nearly VND4.8 billion to the Vietnam Coast Guard, Fisheries Surveillance force and Vietnam Fisheries Trade Union, and fishermen.

After three years since its launch, the programme “Fishing Net of Love for Hoang Sa, Truong Sa Fishermen” received VND45 billion and granted a total of VND39 billion to hundreds of fishermen in central provinces to help them buy new ships and continue fishing at sea.

In addition, nearly 100 sets of fishing equipment were handed over to fishermen to assist them in continuing their work.
