NDO – Hai Hau district should continue to improve and encourage locals to join the campaign to build the district as a new-style rural district toward sustainable development.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh made the statement at a ceremony held at Hai Hau district’s cultural house, Nam Dinh province on August 29 to recognise Hai Hau district as a new rural area.

Deputy PM Ninh praised efforts made by the Hai Hau district’s authorities and people in boosting socio-economic development, especially in improving people’s living standards, reducing poverty and building new-style rural areas.

Local people’s living standards have improved greatly with strong investment in developing cultural activities, education, and health care.

He also called for more joint efforts to achieve the goal to improve the living standards for farmers and residents in rural areas.

Hai Hau district should apply preferential policies for building new-style rural areas; proactively mobilise resources from local people, enterprises and society for the campaign; and integrate investment programmes in both infrastructure and production development, the Deputy PM said.

The national target programme on new-style rural area building, which was launched in 2010, sets 19 national criteria for new rural areas, which cover building infrastructure, improving production capacity, building public works, protecting landscapes and the environment, and promoting local traditions and cultural identities.
