NDO - A modern General Science Library worth nearly VND51 billion (US$2.24 million) was inaugurated by the Han River in Da Nang on August 31 based on the upgrade and expansion of the old library.

The library is built on an area of over 2,000m2 on a total 7,200m2 plot of land in the shape of an opening book facing the Han River with the aim of honouring reading culture.

The construction of the new library commenced in November 2014; it can now receive up to 2,500 readers instead of 1,100.

The library also consists of functional rooms including a reading room for children, a multimedia reading room, a room for looking up addresses, a reading room for the visually impaired, and a room providing information on the World Bank among others. It also includes a 400m2 hall to serve seminars, meetings, book introduction activities, book exchanges and more.

The Da Nang General Science Library has been connected with library systems in all provinces and cities nationwide, and with three national libraries in France, the US and Australia as well as with many universities worldwide.

Vice Chairman of the Da Nang municipal People's Committee Dang Viet Dung said the new library marked the important progress of the city's library sector and the culture sector, aiming to improve the infrastructure and the spiritual life of the local residents.
