NDO—A total of 130 Vietnamese former volunteer soldiers and experts, who are working and living in Thanh Hoa Province, were presented with orders and medals from the Lao State for their contributions to Laos’ revolution for national liberation at a ceremony on November 14.

Speaking at the event, Le Thi Thin, Vice Chairwoman of Thanh Hoa Province People’s Committee congratulated the recipients on the distinctions, expressing her hope that they would continue making contributions to deepening the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

She asked local Party committees and authorised departments and sectors to closely work with relevant Lao agencies to step up the search for and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Laos.

She also pledged that the authorities and people of Thanh Hoa Province would work harder to tighten their friendship and cooperation with Laos in all fields, contributing to nurturing the bilateral special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.

According to Colonel Le Hong Ngoan, Head of the Liaison Committee for Vietnamese former volunteer soldiers and military experts in Thanh Hoa, thousands of soldiers and military officials volunteered to assist Laos with its national resistance war; many of them laid down their lives in Laos.

Over 1,700 former soldiers and military experts in the province have been awarded with Lao accolades, including the Issara (Freedom) Order, the Anti-France Resistance Medal and the Anti-US Resistance Medal.
