NDO – Deputy Prime Minister, Vu Duc Dam, has spoken highly of the contributions made by the elderly in facilitating the socio-economic development of the country and their localities in particular.

The Government official made the remark while addressing the third national conference honouring outstanding elders with profitable business operations, held in Hanoi, on September 28.

The conference, hosted by the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (VAE), honoured 242 delegates representing nearly 400,000 senior citizens across the country.

Deputy PM Dam hailed the honourees as a creative and vanguard example for younger generations to follow, calling on them to make further contributions to society.

He expressed his hope that the businesses and household-based economy models run by the elderly would continue to actively participate in protecting the environment and improving social welfare in their localities.

He also applauded the Vietnam Association of the Elderly for providing support and creating favourable conditions to encourage elders’ movements.
