NDO – A programme was held in Hanoi on April 27 by the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association (VWVA) in collaboration with the Vietnam Veterans Businesses Association to remember the service and contributions of fallen soldiers and Vietnamese heroic mothers towards national construction and defence.

The event was among the activities celebrating the 44th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2019), and the 30th founding anniversary of the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association (1989-2019).

The programme saw the participation of former President Truong Tan Sang, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, high-ranking officials of the Party, Sate, and Government, as well as Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of People’s armed forces, and war veterans’ businesses.

Speaking at the event, VWVA President Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Duoc said that throughout its previous editions, the programme has not only paid tribute to national contributors but has also honoured war veterans who have now turned towards business and made significant contributions to social and charitable activities.

He stressed that in any position, war veterans always promote the tradition of Uncle Ho’s soldiers to be wholehearted to the Fatherland and their comrades, contributing to educating patriotism and revolutionary tradition to younger generations.

As of April 27, a total of VND 332.5 billion (US$14.3 million) has been donated to the VWVA by war veterans’ businesses to care for national contributors and the poor nationwide.
