Campaign launched to collect war memorabilia, documents

NDO – A campaign calling on people to collect war memorabilia and documents related to Vietnamese and American veterans was launched in Hanoi on July 12.

The ceremony also brought together a number of first hand war witnesses and launched the English version of the book “American Pilots in Vietnam” by Vietnamesewriter, Colonel Dang Vuong Hung.

The campaign was initiated in a bid to heal any war wounds that still remain and look for a better life for those who are still suffering from the distress of going throughwar.

The ceremony was jointly held by online Vietnam Urbanand Environment Magazine, the Vietnamese National Archives III, Mai mai tuoi 20 (Twenty-years-young forever) Fund, the The Gioi Publishers, and the veteran group "Soldier's heart” on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the normalisation of the Vietnam - US diplomatic relations.

War memorabilia and documents should be sent to the Vietnamese National Archives III, online Vietnam Urban and Environment Magazine, and Mai mai tuoi 20 Fundbetween July 15, 2019 and April 30, 2020.

After the first phase of the campaign (July 15, 2019 - April 30, 2020), memorabilia and documents will be showcased at exhibitions jointly conducted by Vietnamese and US archives agencies in both countries to mark the 45th anniversary of the end of war in Vietnam.

At the event, Vietnamese writer, Colonel Dang Vuong Hung launched the English version of his book entitled “American Pilots in Vietnam”. The data for the book had been collected by the writer for 16 years from 1997 to 2003.

The book aims to show gratitude to soldiers who sacrificed their youth and lives on the battlefield and express hope for a good future.
