NDO - All 12 Vietnamese contestants won prizes, including two silvers and 10 bronze medals, at the World Math-fusion Olympiad (WMO) 2019, which was held in Thailand on August 11.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Education and Training, all of the students are six graders at secondary schools in the city. The two silver medallists were Nguyen Minh Tri and Huynh Minh Dat from the Tran Dai Nghia School for the Gifted.

Previously, the students were selected thanks to their outstanding results among more than 500 contestants participating at a national competition held at the end of June by the department and the EMG Education company.

The WMO is a globally recognised mathematics contest which is held annually for students aged between eight and 13 with an aim to promote international exchange among mathematically gifted students, to establish a math-based innovative education paradigm, and to cultivate future convergent leaders with the ability to view learning and the world from novel perspectives by stimulating their curiosity and spirit of inquiry.

This year’s event was attended by nearly 200 students from more than 10 countries including China, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.
