NDO – The Hanoi city’s Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) held a ceremony at the Hanoi Opera House on October 11 to honour nearly 200 businesses who have stood out in following President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings.

The event saw the presence of Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, and former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Addressing the event, Chairman of Hanoi city People’s Committee, Nguyen Duc Chung, expressed his pleasure at the robust development of Hanoi’s private sector. He cited that over 93,000 new enterprises were established in the capital city from 2016 to September 2019, up 22.5% against the 2011-2015 period.

Hanoi lured approximately US$20.28 billion in foreign investment in the same reviewed period, 3.2 times higher compared to the 2011-2015 period, he added.

He spoke highly of significant contributions made by Hanoi’s business community, particularly SMEs, to the overall development of the capital city.

Accordingly, the SMEs have contributed more than 30% of the city’s budget and have created jobs for over 50% of employees in the city.

The 200 honourees represented more than 270,000 businesses operating in Hanoi. Four of them were presented with the Labour Orders, second and third class, and Prime Minister’s certificates of merit on the occasion.
