NDO - The Ministry of Transport has allowed the increase of domestic air and rail passenger services as well as the resumption of bus services and inland waterway transport but ordered operators to keep safety measures in place.

The move comes following the Prime Minister’s decision to ease the social distancing rules on preventing the spread of coronavirus starting from April 23 nationwide.

The number of flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City has been increased to 20 per day while carriers can operate six flights per day between Da Nang and Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City.

Other routes will be restricted at one flight per day.

The number of trains between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are capped at three in each direction per day while the frequency for other routes is one in each direction per day.

Inter-provincial bus routes are permitted to resume services, but may carry no higher than 30% of their capacity for medium-risk provinces and 50% for low-risk provinces.

Inland waterway transport services may also reopen but are subject to the decision of the provincial government.

With the easing of travel restrictions, the Ministry of Transport requires operators to equip their vehicles with hand sanitisers and waste bins with lids, and separate passengers at a safe distance.

Operators are also not allowed to fill more than 50% of total seats in a vehicle while passengers are required to wear masks at all times during their journeys.

Passengers will also have to report their health, have their body temperature checked, sanitise their hands, restrict talking and eating, and refrain from spitting.

Earlier, on April 22, the Hanoi government decided to restore public bus, taxi, ride-hailing and long-range bus services but asked operators to ensure coronavirus safety measures.

Public buses will operate at 20-30% of service capacity and must not carry more than 20 passengers in a vehicle at a time.
