NDO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the tree-planting festival 2021 in Phu Yen province on February 20 in commemoration of President Ho Chi Minh and in response to the PM's initiative on planting one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period.

The launch ceremony was held by the People’s Committee of Phu Yen province and the Government Portal and was broadcast live on the VTV8 television channel.

At the event, PM Phuc and other delegates planted trees in Phu Thanh ward, Tuy Hoa city. After the launch ceremony, the remaining districts and towns in Phu Yen province also simultaneously organised tree-planting programmes.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Phuc emphasised that the tree-planting programme is a very meaningful event which is not costly but will bring about a lot of benefits.

He also praised Phu Yen for its goal of planting 15 million new trees in the 2021-2025 period, in response to the PM’s initiative on planting one billion trees in this period.

The government leader noted that besides economics, science and technology, a green and clean environment is also an important factor contributing to enhancing the living standards of the people and promoting sustainable development.

"Green also means prosperity and is the colour of fertility and sustainability", thus the message of the programme on planting one billion trees will be “For a green Vietnam”, the PM added.
