Nhan Dan - Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) granted a certificate of merit to the Dang clan in the Ly Son island district of the central province, Quang Ngai, on April 5.

The honour was presented in recognition of the family’s providing ancient documents confirming Vietnam’s national sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes.

Dang Van Thanh had previously handed over a royal decree bestowed by King Minh Mang during the Nguyen dynasty to local authorities, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the MOFA, which are in charge of gathering documents and evidence confirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.

According to historians in Quang Ngai, throughout the centuries, many other families in Ly Son island, such as the Vo, Pham, and Nguyen clans, also sailed to Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) to protect the country’s sovereignty over these archipelagos.
