Nhan Dan - A ceremony to commemorate the soldiers and sailors of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Flotilla was held on April 6 (the 16th day of the third lunar month) in the Ly Son island district of the central province of Quang Ngai.

Local monks, nuns and residents gathered at the An Vinh communal house to pray for soldiers and sailors who sacrificed their lives in defence of Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos over the years..

The ceremony stems from traditional local religious customs that include launching replica boats with effigies of the Hoang Sa-Truong Sa fleet sailors into the sea.

This annual event aims to educate young people about patriotism and instill in them a strong determination to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty.
