RoK tops Vietnam International Judo Tournament 2016

NDO - With 10 gold and three bronze medals, the Republic of Korea topped the medal tally at the second Vietnam International Judo Tournament 2016 – the People’s Police University Cup which officially concluded on October 30 in Ho Chi Minh City.

They were followed by the national Vietnamese judo team with four gold, three silver and one bronze medal and Ho Chi Minh City with one gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

In the Para Judo event for visually impaired athletes, Hong Kong (China) secured first place with two gold and one silver, followed by India with two gold and two bronze; and Thailand with one gold, and three silvers.

Choi Hee Jun from the Republic of Korea and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Han from Vietnam were honoured with the title of best male and female martial artists at the tournament.

This year’s event involved 200 Judo athletes from 11 countries and territories including Canada, France, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, among others.

Hosts Vietnam sent five teams to compete at the game, including the national Judo team, the national youth Judo team, the Ministry of Public Security’s Judo team and the People’s Police University judo team.

Athletes competed in 16 fighting categories for both male and female divisions along with the Nage No Kata and Juno Kata performance categories.

The games were jointly held by the Ho Chi Minh City Judo Federation in collaboration with the People’s Police and Ton Duc Thang University.
