Campbell electric as Australians claim 100m freestyle golden double

Cate Campbell produced the second fastest women's 100 metres freestyle swim of all time as she won gold for Australia on day two of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships on Friday, knocking a time of 52.03. She was on course to match Sarah Sjoestroem’s world record time of 51.71 set at last year’s World Championships, before fading towards the end.

* Mercurial star Dimitri Payet scored twice, including a penalty courtesy of VAR, as Marseille opened the new French Ligue 1 season with a 4-0 demolition of Toulouse on Friday (August 10).

* The goals by captain Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw fired Manchester United to a winning start in the Premier League, as they defeated Leicester City 2-1 on Friday (August 10).

* La Liga side Valencia have signed Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi on a one-season loan deal from Chelsea, the two teams said on Friday. Batshuayi joined Chelsea in 2016 from Olympique de Marseille and only struck five league goals in his first campaign

* Everton have signed French centre back Kurt Zouma on a season-long loan from Chelsea, the Premier League clubs announced on Friday. The Merseyside club made a late move for the 23-year-old ahead of Thursday's 1600 GMT (5 pm BST) transfer deadline, and had to wait until Friday to learn if their bid was successful.

* Zambia's former African Footballer of the Year, Kalusha Bwalya has been banned from the game for two years by world governing body FIFA after an investigation into his links to banned Qatari official Mohammed Bin Hammam.

* Chinese soccer authorities have banned Changchun Yatai midfielder Zhang Li for six games after he was found guilty of racially abusing former Chelsea striker Demba Ba in the Chinese Super League last weekend.

* Tour de France-winning cyclist Jan Ullrich was briefly detained on Friday (Aug 10) for allegedly assaulting a prostitute in Frankfurt, police said, before freeing him on bail pending an investigation for possible attempted manslaughter.

* After ordering football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to pay €18.7 million euros (US$21.4 million) to settle a tax fraud claim, Spanish authorities have reduced the sum by €2 million, the El Mundo daily reported Friday (August 10).
