Vo Thanh Tung clinches Vietnam’s third swimming gold at Asian Para Games

NDO – Swimmer Vo Thanh Tung was the brightest Vietnamese athlete at the ongoing 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia on October 9 as he clinched the only gold medal of the day for the national sport delegation.

Tung clocked the fastest time of 01:17.02 in the men’s 100m freestyle S5 final, which was also a new Asian record in this category.

The silver and bronze medals went to Muhammad Nur Syaiful of Malaysia (01:17.28) and Al-khafaji Qasim of Iraq (01:23.29), respectively.

Vo Thanh Tung wins the second gold medal in Indonesia.

It was the second gold for Tung and the third gold for Vietnam’s swimming team in Indonesia, following the previous titles won in the men’s 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke S5 disciplines.

Tung also brought home another silver medal in the men’s 50m butterfly S5 category with a time of 39.45 seconds, 2.05 seconds slower than the gold medalist, Daliyev Siyazbek of Kazakhstan.

In addition, Vietnam won four more bronze medals on October 9, including one in athletics and three in swimming.

As of 9pm on Tuesday, Vietnam stood in 10th place in the provisional table with five golds, two silvers and nine bronzes.
