NDO – Hanoi were crowned the national U21 football champions for the fourth time after narrowly edging out Binh Duong 1-0 in the title match of the 2018 tournament on November 17.

The capital team dominated right from the kick-off despite lacking many key players and soon cruised ahead thanks to Thanh Chung’s effort just a few minutes into the game.

Later in the first half, Hanoi had to make an unexpected substitution as Nguyen Van Dat was sent on to the field in replacement for centre back Bui Hoang Viet Anh, who could not continue playing due to injury.

Manager Pham Minh Duc’s side proactively slowed down their pace, thus giving Binh Duong the chance to push forward in search of an equaliser.

Binh Duong created a number of opportunities to score with time running out, but they failed to find the back of the net.

The most dangerous attack deployed by manager Hoang Hung’s troops was a strike from Tong Anh Ty that unfortunately hit the cross bar.

The convincing 1-0 triumph meant Hanoi became the four-time national U21 champions, wrapping up a successful season for the capital football club, with the V-League and national U21 crowns and a runner-up finish at the National U19 Championship.

In addition to the overall trophy, the joy was multiplied for Hanoi U21 as Nguyen Thanh Chung and Do Sy Huy were respectively voted the “most valuable player” and the “best goalkeeper” of the tournament.

The third prize was shared by Viettel U21 and Hoang Anh Gia Lai U21.
