NDO – Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) ended their five-game winless run in V.League 2019 after thrashing newly promoted Viettel 3-1 in their matchday 19 meeting at Vinh Stadium on August 2.

The match started at a slow pace, but a surprise occurred in the 20th minute as Quang Tinh blasted home from close range to open the scoring for SLNA.

In addition to trailing behind, Viettel were also reduced to 10 men five minutes from half-time, with foreigner Janclesio being shown two consecutive yellow cards following his brutal foul on Pham The Nhat and sent off.

The unexpected incident put the guests under mounting pressure. Shortly before the break, Ho Tuan Tai slotted the ball past the Viettel keeper to double SLNA’s advantage.

In the second half, Nguyen Hai Bien’s troops intensified their offence seeking to narrow the score, but only to see their efforts being dealt a big blow as Damir Memovic made it 3-0 for the hosts with a few minutes left to play.

The following attempts only allowed Viettel to score a consolation, with Bruno beating keeper Nguyen Manh from the spot after earning a penalty himself.

The fabulous victory helped SLNA put an end to their five-game winless run (two draws and three losses), and temporarily climb to fourth place in the table with 26 points. Meanwhile, Viettel dropped to eighth position with two points fewer.
