The Hong Kong side named up to seven foreign players in their starting lineup for the match at the PVF Youth Football Training Centre in the northern province of Hung Yen, grabbing the upper hand in terms of fitness and physique.

However, Vietnam head coach Park Hang-seo instructed his players to block the opponents from deploying high balls, which prevented Kitchee SC from producing clear-cut threats to keeper Sy Huy’s goal area.

The hosts utilised Kitchee’s attacking deadlock to find the back of the net twice, with Martin Lo successfully converting a penalty in the 63rd minute and Danh Trung blasting a skillful freekick 16 minutes later.

Throughout the match, Vietnamese players met the basic requirements from the coaching staff.

Park summoned 19 players to Vietnam’s U22 team for the second camp from Aug. 12 to 15, which is part of their ongoing preparations towards the gold medal target at the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games later this year.

Today, the players will return to their managing clubs to continue competing in domestic tournaments. Vietnam U22s are set to reconvene this Aug. 26 to prepare for another international friendly against China U22s, slated for September 8.
