NDO – Reigning V.League champions Hanoi FC have come close to completing a domestic double this season after outplaying Ho Chi Minh City 3-0 in the National Cup semifinals on October 27 to set up a title match with Quang Nam FC.

HCM City had the first opportunity of the match as Van Thuan forced Hanoi keeper Phi Minh Long to make a smart save with a 16th-minute long-range strike.

However, it was Chu Dinh Nghiem’s side who opened the scoring thanks to a quick fire from close range by Pape Omar Faye 19 minutes later following Quang Hai’s corner.

Hanoi’s advantage was doubled in the early minutes of the first half, with Van Dai receiving a cross from Van Quyet and slotting past HCM City goalie Thanh Thang.

Captain Van Quyet rounded off Hanoi’s comfortable win by scoring their third goal in the 75th minute, thus sending Chu Dinh Nghiem’s side to the title match against Quang Nam FC, who edged past Becamex Binh Duong 2-1 in the other semifinal earlier the same day.

Binh Duong cruised to a 1-0 lead late in the first half thanks to Wander Luiz, but they could not capitalise on that advantage to clinch an overall victory. Within only eight minutes in the second half, Quang Nam FC scored two successive goals thanks to Ha Minh Tuan (75’) and Rodrigo Da Silva (83’), thereby booking their place in the title decider.

The final match of the 2019 Vietnamese National Cup between Hanoi FC and Quang Nam FC is set to take place at Quang Nam’s Tam Ky Stadium on October 31. Meanwhile, HCM City and Becamex Binh Duong co-share the third prize in this year’s tournament.
