Accordingly, the match is projected to be held in Vietnam on October 8 in the event that the COVID-19 pandemic is put under control.

In fact, the Vietnam-Kyrgyzstan friendly had been scheduled to take place in March as part of the two sides’ preparations for the sixth matchday of the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. However, it was then cancelled due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease.

Initial information stated that the Kyrgyz team will bring their strongest squad to Vietnam and will have to abide by the Vietnamese Government’s regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control at that time.

If permitted, this will be the first international friendly match for Park Hang-seo’s Vietnamese team in 2020 after months out of action due to the pandemic. It will also act as an important warm-up for the Golden Stars before their away meeting with Malaysia in the World Cup 2022 qualifiers, slated for October 13.

Earlier, the Iraq Football Association (IFA) also extended a proposal to the VFF concerning the reorganisation of the cancelled friendly between the two countries’ national teams.

In round two of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, Vietnam currently lead Group G with 11 points, followed by Malaysia (nine), Thailand (eight), the UAE (six) and Indonesia (zero points). Park Hang-seo’s troops are targeting a top spot overall to book their place in the third qualification round.
