The epidemic outbreak has seriously affected tourism activities in the region in recent times. Famous tourist destinations have been poorly patronised, especially since the Government issued the directive on social distancing.

In addition, all cultural and tourism activities that have attracted a large number of visitors over previous years were temporarily postponed or cancelled.

In this context, localities have set out many drastic measures to remove difficulties for production and business, ensure social welfare and boost tourism activities.

Accordingly, Bac Lieu provincial tourism sector has proposed supports on administrative reform in this field; the application of information and technology; and training programmes for high-quality human resources.

Can Tho City Deparment of Culture, Sports and Tourism has built plans to promote the city as a safe destination as well as boost stimulus strategies after Covid-19 ended.

Meanwhile, Dong Thap provincial authorities are focusing on directing tourist attractions’ management boards to upgrade and repair their infrastructure and train more high-quality tourism workers. On the other hand, tourism stimulus programmes with new models and services should be enhanced to attract more visitors in the near future.

Local people, who have developed community-based tourism models, have improved their infrastructure and services during the temporary closure due to the epidemic.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City will coordinate with Mekong Delta localities to build an effective stimulus package for tourism development.
