Armenian PM pays official visit to Vietnam

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and his spouse began an official visit to Vietnam from July 4-7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

During his four-day stay, the Armenian PM had talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and met with National Assembly Charwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and representatives from a number of Vietnamese firms.

At the meetings, the two sides affirmed that the visit will help create a breakthrough in bilateral relations, contributing to fostering the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Armenia.

On the evening of July 4 (local time), at the 2019 Global Summit of Women in Basel, Switzerland, Vietnamese Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh called on nations, organisations and enterprises to join hands in building a legal framework to ensure equality regarding opportunities for women and help them to adapt to the fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Vietnamese delegation also participated in and made contributions to activities of the summit, including a Ministerial Roundtable discussing the role of Public-Private Partnerships in Advancing Economic Opportunities for Women and Girls, a forum on “Doing Business with Switzerland”, and a Leadership Forum themed “Helping to Run Countries”.

Bac Giang lychee revenue hits all-time high

The 2019 lychee harvest in the northern province of Bac Giang set a new all-time record for revenue at over VND6.3 trillion (US$270.9 million), according to the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province.

The lychee cultivation hub of Bac Giang has sold approximately 150,000 tonnes of local lychees in the 2019 crop, earning over VND6.3 trillion including the revenue from lychee products and supporting services.

Despite lower output compared to that of 2018, revenue from lychees in the 2019 crop has increased sharply thanks to higher selling prices, which is the result of improved cultivation methods towards VietGAP and GlobalGap. In addition, more than 50% of lychee output has been exported, bringing about higher value for farmers and producers.

Vietnam named among the top ten countries for expats

Vietnam's colourful culture and friendly locals make it one of the best destinations for expats.

Vietnam has been named as one of ten best countries for expatriate workers thanks to its colourful culture and friendly locals, according to the HSBC’s Expat 2019 Global Report.

Vietnam ranks number ten while the best destination is Switzerland, followed by Singapore and Canada.

The country ranks third in the aspiring criterion, which includes subcriteria such as income, economic stability, career progression and work-life balance.

The report notes that the appeal of Vietnam has expanded greatly in recent years and, in particular, serial expats are setting their sights on the magnificent landscape, lively culture and positive work-life balance.

Second tropical storm of 2019 hits Vietnam

Typhoon Mun, the second to arise in the East Sea so far this year, made landfall in localities from Hai Phong to Nam Dinh early on July 4, with wind speeds of 62-88 km/h.

It caused torrential rains in northern and central localities on July 4. A level three natural disaster alert was issued in the mainland localities from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa.

In the central province of Thanh Hoa, heavy rain lead to the collapse of part of the Yen Hoa bridge in Hai Hoa commune, Tinh Gia district, killing two people and injuring two others on July 4.

Finland wins 2019 Da Nang International Fireworks Festival

The JoHo Pyro Professional Fireworks AB team from Finland have been crowned champions of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) for their amazing display on the final night of the competition, July 6.

The Finnish team delighted thousands of spectators with their wonderful performance which was inspired by offshore fishing trips of Vietnamese fishermen.

The second prize went to the team Pyrotex Fireworx Ltd from the UK.

The 2019 DIFF, themed ‘Stories by the Rivers’, took place from June 1 to July 6 with the participation of eight teams from eight nations: Italy, Russia, Brazil, Belgium, Finland, the UK, China and host Vietnam.

Hanoi hosts international cultural and tourism festival

The 2019 International Cultural and Tourism Festival officially opened in the capital city of Hanoi on July 6, featuring the participation of numerous domestic and foreign airlines and travel agencies.

At the two-day festival, various cultural and tourism activities were held, including promotional programmes with up to 50% discounted domestic and abroad tours.

The event features a variety of exchange activities and a unique art program in a space highlighting the characteristics of the participating countries.

Vietnamese striker Nguyen Cong Phuong joins Belgian club Sint-Truidense

It has been officially announced that Vietnamese football star striker Nguyen Cong Phuong will join the Belgian club of Sint-Truidense under a one-year loan agreement.

At the contract signing on July 5 in Ho Chi Minh City, the 24-year-old Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) striker said it was a turning point in his footballing career.

Phuong was part of the Vietnamese national team that won the ASEAN football tournament in 2018 and the Vietnam U-23 team that finished second at the U-23 Asian Cup in the same year.

Sint-Truidense currently play in Belgium’s top-league tournament, First Division A, and finished seventh during the 2018-2019 season.
