International Conference of Asian Political Parties wraps up its 10th general assembly

NDO – The 10th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) wrapped up in Moscow, Russia, on October 26, after three working days.

* Vietnam calls for closer cooperation between Asian political parties

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who is also Chairman of the Russian ruling party United Russia, attended and delivered his speech at the closing ceremony.

Representatives of 70 political parties from 35 Asian countries discussed the role of political parties in maintaining international and regional peace and security, and combating extremism, as well as the importance of relations between political parties for the development and expansion of political, economic and social relations among nations.

The conference adopted the Moscow Declaration, expressing deep concern on the uncertainties and geopolitical disputes that are currently on the increase internationally.

The document also emphasised that territorial disputes and the rise of terrorism and extremism are seriously threatening international peace and security, while reaffirming the basic principles of the ICAPP, namely sovereignty, territorial integrity, equality among nations, peaceful solutions to international conflicts and non-interference in the internal affairs of the ICAPP member nations.

The Moscow Declaration highlighted the role and importance of cooperation among political parties in preventing conflict, maintaining peace, security, stability and prosperity in the region, promoting promote political trust, and expanding the political, economic and social relations among nations.

The statement also expressed concern on the rise of protectionism, trade disputes and unilateralism, affirming that multilateral cooperation must be the cornerstone of international and regional structures.

As a member of the Standing Committee of the ICAPP and its Vice President, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), led by Hoang Binh Quan, Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, has actively participated in multiple important activities at the conference.

Quan greeted Russian PM and Chairman of the United Russia party, Dmitry Medvedev, as well as working and holding talks with other political parties’ representatives in Russia and across the region.
