A building collapse in southwestern Russia earlier this week has caused 37 deaths, the country's Emergency Ministry said on January 3.

According to the statement, six children were among the dead and there were still four people missing.

A gas blast on December 31 night tore through the 10-story building in the industrial city of Magnitogorsk in the Chelyabinsk Region, destroying dozens of apartments and leaving some people homeless.

The condition of all the injured people who have been hospitalized was currently assessed as stable, the regional department of the Health Ministry was quoted by Sputnik news agency on January 3.

Rescuers were still at the site to search for people who are believed to be buried in the rubble.
